A Man Who Was Born
04:16
|
|||
My whole life I've had the world against my back
I was born on the wrong side of the tracks
My parents both died by the time that I reached five
Been a lonely drifter almost all my life
Of all the thing I've done well I can't say I'm proud
Leave a trail of death as I drift from town to town
I've killed a million men and I'll kill a million more
These cold hands are as dirty as the floor
Never cared much for the words of the lord
Tried to read the Bible once and I just got bored
But if he's up there and he's seen what I have done
I beg him for forgiveness as if I were his son
Well the law men caught up and dragged me away
The darkest, coldest jail cell is now where I stay
Sheriff said "Now boy you've got a week to live
I should kill you now after all the things you did"
I said "Sheriff sir you gotta understand
I won't beg you for forgiveness but you see I'm just a man
A man who was born on the wrong side of the tracks
A man who was born with the world against his back"

Wandering Stranger
02:57
|
|||
I met a stranger on the road
Who looked all alone
He said "Sir can you help me
I can't find my home
My wife well she kicked me out
For another man
Threw me in the desert
With an empty water can
I live here out west
But I don't recognize this place
It's been about 3 days
Since I've seen another face
So please sir can you help me
I can't find my home
Do you have a map to spare
For a man who's all alone"
I said "Sir I'm sorry
But I have no map to spare
If you knew where your home was
I'd surely take you there
But I'm afraid that I can't help you
Though I wish I could
The most I have to offer you
Are three cans and some wood
I know it's not much
But it'll help you through the night
Just try and keep your head up
And you'll be alright"
He said "Thank you stranger
At least I can eat again"
And he headed off the other way
And that's the last I saw of him

Death
01:44
|
|||
I used to walk by death
with a cocky strut
But I'm afraid he's learned to walk behind
I feel it in my gut
In a suit of charcoal black
Axe firmly in hand
I feel him breathing down my neck
Like a living man
His breath is cold and bitter
His stench a sour fume
He's got a voice of sand and nails
His touch is as sharp too
And he tells me every morning
Every night and day
"You can run all that you like
But you won't get away
For I am not an option
I'm guaranteed to all
Only certain thing in life is me
You're all bound to fall"

The Evening Train
02:59
|
|||
I heard the whining whistle
Of the evening train
And as the sky grew darker
It began to rain
The people they all gathered 'round
To watch who had arrived
And full of shock and horror
I saw it was my wife
My wife she had gone missing
The cops they gave up searching
And just let it go
But now here she is
Though she is not alive
Her eyes they are gently closed
And her hands are tied
Our boy he came looking
To see if it was true
But the crowd they had to hold him back
As his face grew blue
They found her by the river
Facedown in the mud
Bullet lodged inside her head
Covered all in blood
Who it was that did it
Nobody is sure
And no one knows why someone
Would take a life so pure
